In a major breakthrough during intensified election monitoring, police seized approximately ₹10 lakh in cash from a car during a late-night checkpoint operation in the Budbud area under the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate. The occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody on the spot, and initial questioning has begun to determine the source and purpose of the money.
The operation was carried out jointly by Budbud police and personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), who were deployed as part of heightened security measures ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Acting on suspicion during routine checks, officers intercepted the vehicle and recovered the cash, which was counted at the scene.
With the Model Code of Conduct currently in force, authorities have stepped up surveillance and checking across the region to curb illegal cash movement. Police officials stated that investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized amount, adding that such operations will continue in the coming days to ensure free and fair elections.
